You should be marketing more in a down economy, not less…

Posted on January 9, 2009

I read an article last evening that  thought summed it up rather nicely.  My friends who are marketers, talk about this.  My friends who are execs, talk about this.  My friends who are consultants, talk about this.  It’s an article about how companies are tightening marketing budgets instead of expanding them in hard times.  When money gets tight, one of the first budgets to go is Mmarketing.  Why?  Well, it is seen as a cost center and not a profit center, even though its efforts help drive sales and build your brand.  Read the article here:  http://tinyurl.com/7gcsa7.

Disecting tasks to understand and run a better small business

Posted on January 3, 2009

In the below video, Timothy Ferriss discusses how he overcomes his fears and how he dissects or deconstructs a set of tasks so that he can better understand and master them in very short periods of time.  After reading his short blog article and reviewing the video, it drew a striking parallel to Michael Gerber’s “The E-Myth.” What Tim is describing is deconstructing the task and turning it into a procedure, so that it flows better for him… The same thing could be done for your small business.  Deconstruct your work.  Write down the steps, refine them until you can do them and not wate time, energy or extra effort, and make them a permanent part of your business and productivity schedule for 2009.

Schedule your social media usage in 2009 to be more productive.

Posted on January 1, 2009

Ironically, through one of my twitter connections (@chrisgarrett) about scheduling his social media usage to suit his schedule more effectivly.  It may be a good idea for all those who find themselves on their Facebook or other social media applications all day long and not able to get any work done.  You can find the post here:  http://www.chrisg.com/social-media-network-effects/

The concept resembles concepts that I found in Tim Ferriss’s - “The Four Hour Workweek.”
