Everybody, and I mean everbody, sells something.

It is true.  Everyone sells something.  I don’t care if you are a landscaper, dentist, medical doctor, restaurant wait staff, etc.  Your job is ultimately to make a happy  customer out of someone and ensure that their money gets to your employer or bank.

Good sales people in poor economic times

So, this morning, as many mornings I received an email in my inbox from a recruiter soliciting me for a position that has nothing to do with the background I have.  I looked at it for a moment, and then thought, “I’m going to reply just to see if he will engage me in the sales process.”

Our economic climate is tough, so I figured he might just give me a ring back on the phone (since it is in the signature in my email).  30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes, and I received an email back from him.  His response to my request for more information about different positions (via email) mind you, was to go to their Website, fill out our application and resume information, and then you can browse the jobs we have online. “  Whoa?  Really?  What happened to the days (not so long ago) when a recruiter would call you relentlessly until you had to hang up on them?  Apparently they are gone.  Read the rest of this entry »

Cold Called by a CPA Firm

CPAAn interesting thing just happened to me (it may not be so interesting you to you but), I was just cold called by a CPA Accounting firm for my tax and small business needs.  You may be saying, so what is the big deal?  Well, I have been in and out of my own business ventures for almost 20 years, and this is the first time I had ever been cold called by a CPA firm.  Now, it just so happens I have been looking around for a new firm to handle my small business needs as well as my personal needs, so the timing is right (tax time no exception).  Now, I usually will ask fellow business owner for a reference of who they use, and I did recently, but have not had the opportunity to make a call.
